About Us
Mission
We meet students where they are, delivering comprehensive, science-based sex education across Dallas.
Vision
Educating for a future of sexual health and flourishing for all.
Values
Wholly Informed Sex Ed promotes the values of Self-Worth, Sexual Health, Responsibility, Justice, and Inclusivity in the wider community. Our program practices are conducted with these always in mind.
Internally, we follow the same core values, which we believe are critical to the success of our people-centered approach.
Our Story
Founded by a former educator in 2020, in the midst of a global pandemic and a nationwide wake-up call around racial inequities, WISE is devoted to developing and growing a strong program of comprehensive, anti-racist sexuality education for Dallas youth who are otherwise not being educated in this essential, life-saving knowledge.
In 2021, we offered our first in-person workshops to summer campers at Pan-African Connection Bookstore and received rave reviews. The past few years have been a time of exploration and education, as we have trained many new facilitators and engaged with multiple Dallas-area organizations and schools for the purpose of delivering inclusive, comprehensive sex education to students where they are, from community centers to private schools to classrooms at Dallas College.
Through deliberate and careful growth, we have managed to reach over 500 students and rising with in depth multi-session sex education workshops, significantly improving chances of changed behavior and improved outcomes compared to the usual “one-time” lectures or brief sessions often provided by others.
We take the innovative approach of teaching the fundamentals of healthy human connection. Our students learn the essentials of healthy relationships with themselves, their peers, parents, and future romantic partners. We recognize that in order to change behavior, you need to teach more than facts alone; learning must be emotionally resonant and focus on individual, interpersonal, community, and societal influences.
At a time when we are all suffering from a crisis of connection, and we see the drastic effects of this on our teens’ mental health and socioemotional development, WISE offers a program that teaches students how to build healthy connections, hone relationship skills, set healthy boundaries, navigate complex media, societal, and cultural influences, and make healthy choices in keeping with their personal values. This is an education in being human that we all need – and that we all deserve to access.
In 2023, we participated in, and are proud to have graduated from, the Dallas Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Racial Equity Now Non-profit cohort, where we developed a racial equity theory of change to guide our work. This learning opportunity further supports our ongoing efforts to function as a racially equitable organization both internally and externally.
We look forward to a future of sexual health and flourishing for all.
